Peter Viesnik is one of New Zealand's best known hot glass artists, with a career spanning 29 years during which time he has studied and worked with many acknowledged glass masters, both in New Zealand and overseas. He has also served as past President of the NZ Society of Artists in Glass.

His present design series includes innovative paperweights which range from intricate inclusions of individually made Murrines combined with Dichroic glass, blown canes, the Lily series and colourful flame worked fish and underwater scenes. Also goblets have been a steady production item throughout his career and are much sought after by wine enthusiasts who enjoy drinking from these distinctive vessels.

In recent years he has been increasingly intrigued with the use of Dichroic glass which provides lustrous colours and textures and he uses this extensively in his paperweights, incalmo bowls, vases and stoppered bottles. Viesnik's work is represented in Museum and private collections both in New Zealand and overseas and his work is displayed in selected galleries and retail outlets throughout the country.
