Artist Statement

“Creating contemporary jewellery provides me with a means of contemplation and expression, often drawing from personal experiences along the journey which has brought me to the present.”

“While the underlying intention of my work may be to challenge traditional boundaries of preciousness with the use of unlikely materials, on another level this allows me to use both the problem solving and playful approaches to design, thereby enjoying the process as much as the discovery of a final outcome.”

O-Range

The O-Range is a body of work developed during my four month studio residency at Object Studios, Australian Centre for Contemporary Craft, Sydney.

Combining rubber o-rings with sterling silver the O-Range continues themes established in earlier work, where the use of non-precious materials is a challenge to traditional perceptions of jewellery.

The O-Range has an element of intrigue and an invitation to ‘play’. The o-rings are held within their sterling silver surrounds by tension only, and may be removed for cleaning or simply out of curiosity! The fold-down ring and bangle are also able to be manipulated.
