Artist Statement

Feet on the ground or head in the clouds? I navigate between two different worlds.

Employed as a Flight Information/NOTAM Officer, I am required to think in a very logical, linear, rule-based way. I am surrounded by maps, charts, symbols, abbreviations and codes, all of which have a very specific meaning and purpose.

As an artist working in this environment, I find myself intrigued and inspired by my surroundings, which seem to me, like a beautiful and mysterious foreign language.

By changing the context of these symbols, it allows them to become ambiguous and open to interpretation. Rather than being tied to one specific, predetermined meaning, I have extended the possibility for them to be appreciated as beautiful, decorative, ornamental and at liberty to have new meanings attached by the viewer.
