Artist Profile
In my work I like to use simple flowing forms and make use of clear cut details to draw the eye and emphasis the designs.
Many of my larger pieces incorporate stands, or feet, to allow more space around the form. The use of colour and texture gives contrast with the natural colours and grain of the timbers used.
The timbers used are all grown in New Zealand and include natives: rimu, kauri, ngaio, and red beech, and introduced species such as ash, walnut, sycamore and yew.
I have been turning for over 20 years and in that time have been involved on a local and national level in promoting woodturning and art - craft.
My work has been exhibited throughout New Zealand and in 1990 I received a major QEII Arts Council grant.
My time is currently balanced between woodturning, work as a counsellor and study for a Diploma in Psychotherapy.
