My work is a study in design, an experiment of craft. It is a repetitive action, a method of production or manufacturing on a small scale, a personal scale. These objects are a reflection of my research and study into the production work of 20th century glass manufacturers like Venini, Barovier, Kosta and Steuben. The retrosets and birdbottles as objects at once reflect the past but incorporate the present and anticipate the future.
The colours, the variety of colours and the forms themselves are very deliberate. The relationship that each individual colour and form has with the entire group is as important or more important to me than the individual piece. This is how I approach my craft in general; the repetitive production of form in itself can at the same time be beautiful or satisfying and monotonous or boring. But the cumulative effect of production begins to drag both the activity and the work from the depths of simplicity and self evidence into a complex and beautiful realm by a simple shift of perspective or perception.
